samenvatting: In 2005 voerden Soa Aids Nederland en de Rutgers Nisso Groep het grootschalige onderzoek ?Seks onder je 25e, uit onder 12-25-jarigen.1 Een conclusie daaruit is dat het in het algemeen goed is gesteld met de seksuele gezondheid van jongeren in Nederland. Maar hoe gaat het meer in het bijzonder met homo- en biseksuele jongens? Schorer was geïnteresseerd in de ervaring met relaties en seksualiteit van deze subpopulatie en vroeg de Universiteit Utrecht dit te onderzoeken. Hiervoor is gebruik gemaakt van de gegevens van de homo- en biseksuele jongens van de representatieve steekproef van ?Seks onder je 25e?, inclusief de latere uitbreiding van het aantal van deze jongens geworven door de onderzoekers via het tijdschrift Expreszo. Dit artikel bevat de belangrijkste resultaten op het gebied van veilig vrijen. Centraal staan vergelijkingen tussen homo- en biseksuele jongens enerzijds en heteroseksuele jongens anderzijds en de vraag hoe ?goed? het gaat met de seksuele gezondheid van homo- en biseksuele jongens.

samenvatting: A community needs assessment was conducted at an AIDS service organization in New York City to inform the development of an HIV and substance abuse prevention program for black and Latino young men who have sex with men (YMSM). Data from the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene indicated that HIV infections in Black and Latino YMSM were concentrated in Brooklyn and Queens. Evidence from existing studies of YMSM suggested that Black and Latino YMSM are more likely than other YMSM to be HIV infected and unaware of their diagnosis. Furthermore, partner characteristics and peer norms might influence HIV infection and HIV sexual risk behavior, particularly among Black YMSM. Recommendations include routine HIV/sexually transmitted infection testing and addressing issues around sexual partners and communication about HIV status and condom use in the context of HIV prevention activities for Black and Latino YMSM. samenvatting: Het onderzoek Coming-Out Coming-in en HIV-risico is een project waarin homojongens drie jaar worden gevolgd. Het onderzoek bestaat uit twee delen, een kwalitatieve arm en een kwantitatieve arm. Negenentwintig jongens worden elke 6 maanden geïnterviewd. Daarnaast vullen 185 andere jongens elke 6 maanden een online vragenlijst in over vergelijkbare onderwerpen als in de interviews. Het continu monitoren van deze groep vanaf het begin van de coming-out levert gegevens op met betrekking tot het verloop van het coming-out proces, acculturatie, seksueel risicogedrag, de rol van internet als bron van informatie over homoseksualiteit en over hiv/soa gerelateerde onderwerpen. Het doel van deze jaarlijkse rapportages is om alle partijen die professioneel geïnvolveerd zijn met deze doelgroep, te voorzien van gegevens die relevant kunnen zijn voor beleid of activiteiten.

samenvatting: This study investigated factors associated with sexual behavior that confer the greatest risk for HIV transmission (i.e., unprotected anal intercourse; UAI) among 52 sexually active gay and bisexual adolescent males in a Midwestern city, ages 15 to 19. A logistic regression model found that ethnicity other than African American, more sexual partners in the past year, greater stigma toward homosexuality, and greater perceived peer sexual norms for risky behavior were significantly associated with UAI (x2 = 27.96, df = 5, p <.001; Nagelkerke R2 = 0.56). samenvatting: Few studies have examined how social support network characteristics are related to perceived receipt of social support among male sexual minority youths. Using egocentric network data collected from a study of male sexual minority youths (N = 592), multivariable logistic regression analyses examined distinct associations between individual and social network characteristics with receipt of (1) emotional and (2) material support. In multivariable models, frequent communication and having friends in one's network yielded a twofold increase in the likelihood of receiving emotional support whereas frequent communication was associated with an almost threefold higher likelihood of perceived material support. Finally, greater internalized homophobia and personal experiences of gay-related stigma were inversely associated with perceived receipt of emotional and material support, respectively. Understanding the evolving social context and social interactions of this new generation of male sexual minority youths is warranted in order to understand the broader, contextual factors associated with their overall health and well-being.
